Swing for the Spirit & Soul - an uplifting and meaningful collection of tunes from Great American Songbook.

Since their first meeting at a Chicago gig, jazz vocalist Petra van Nuis and jazz pianist Dennis Luxion knew they had a unique musical connection. Their shared aesthetic was immediately evident and they have been making beautiful music together ever since. Their love of fantastic tunes, both well-worn and obscure, and the desire to communicate them in a honest and straightforward way where the lyric reigns supreme is what makes the listening experience special for audiences.

Petra and Dennis play at prominent Chicago jazz venues including the Jazz Showcase, the Green Mill, the Chicago Cultural Center, Fitzgerald's, and Andy's Jazz Club.
Petra van Nuis is a jazz vocalist who has been described in Downbeat Magazine as having "a light, gorgeous and fairly delicate voice...a gift for melody and plenty of rhythmic confidence." A former dancer and Cincinnati native, Petra came to Chicago in 2004. Festival appearances include the Chicago Jazz Festival, the Chautauqua Jazz Party, the Cedar Basin Jazz Festival, and headliner of the Michelob Women In Jazz Festival. Internationally, Petra has toured in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Canada and her 2009 recording “Far Away Places” was recently re-issued in Japan.

Dennis Luxion is a jazz pianist, composer and educator. Between 1979 and 1983 while living in Belgium, Luxion made a number of recordings, television and radio appearances, and tours throughout Europe with trumpeter/vocalist Chet Baker. Since coming back to Chicago in 1985, Luxion has worked with jazz legends Steve Allen, Conte Candoli, Lee Konitz, Claudio Roditi, Archie Shepp, Gunther Schuller, Toots Thielemans, among others. In 2012, Luxion toured Southern Africa as part of the Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad program administered by Jazz at Lincoln Center for the US State Department’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs.
